Top Robot Olympiad Honors Bagged by UAE Schools

The second World Robot Olympiad (WRO) - Arabia competition was recently concluded in Qatar. This competition saw many teams from the Gulf region compete for the top honors. In the end, three teams from Abu Dhabi proved to be victorious, with Al Tamayouz School in Al Ain winning the first prize in the Junior High School Preparatory level and the International Jubilee Private School coming first in the Elementary School-Primary level. The Khorfakkan Child Centre settled for the first runner up position in the Elementary School-Primary Level.

The competition drew huge praise and the winners of this competition will now go on to compete in the worldwide WRO 2012 final that is slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, early next week, from the 9th of November to the 11th. The theme for this event has been stated as ‘Robots Connecting People’.

Much of the praise heaped on the students was also showered on the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). It is due to the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in furthering education and bringing it to the international standards, that schools in UAE have managed to reach such levels. Keeping this in mind, ADEC was nominated to form the WRO Arabia Steering Committee. Dr Najla Alraway Alnaqbi, Educational Technology Expert manager, Strategic Planning and Special Projects (Office of Strategic Affairs) at ADEC said “While ADEC was the first to launch WRO Arabia, it’s also a fortunate coincidence that ADEC representatives have been nominated by existing members of the WRO Advisory Council to become part of the committee, and to help run WRO international”. It is truly a matter of pride that schools in Dubai are managing to reach sky high in terms of their education and achievements.
